Brake repair in Detroit

Brakes are the one repair nobody should put off, and the one most people get quoted vaguely. We put the car on a lift, measure what is left, and show you the worn part before we quote a figure.

Brake Service at Quality Muffler & Brakes on Fenkell Ave, Detroit

What the job includes

Pads and rotors

Ceramic or semi-metallic pads to suit how you drive, with coated rotors, new hardware and lubricant.

Calipers and hoses

Seized calipers, torn boots and soft or corroded hoses, the parts that make a pedal feel wrong even with new pads.

Fluid service

A flush and bleed at all four corners when the fluid has darkened or taken on moisture.

Parking brake and lines

Cables, shoes and steel lines, including the rusted sections a Michigan winter tends to find first.

When to bring it in

Signs you need this

  • Grinding or a metal-on-metal scrape when you slow down
  • Squealing that stops when you press harder, usually the wear indicator
  • The steering wheel or pedal shaking under braking
  • The car pulling to one side as you stop
  • A pedal that sinks toward the floor or feels spongy
How we quote it
  1. Free inspectionThe car goes on a lift and everything relevant is measured, not guessed.
  2. A firm written quoteParts and labor itemized, explained in plain English, before anything is touched.
  3. Most repairs, same dayAnything found mid-repair is quoted and approved first. The invoice matches the quote.

Questions about brake service

How long does a brake job take?

Most pad and rotor jobs are finished the same day. If your vehicle needs a part we do not stock, we will tell you before you leave the car.

Do I need to replace rotors with pads?

Not always. We measure rotor thickness and check for scoring, if they are within spec and running true, pads alone are the honest answer.

Can I watch or see the old parts?

Yes. Ask when you approve the work and we will set the old parts aside for you.

How long do brake pads last?

Anywhere from 25,000 to 70,000 miles, and the spread is mostly how you drive rather than what the pads cost. Stop-and-go miles across Detroit wear them far faster than highway miles do. Mileage is a guide rather than an answer: the only thing that settles it is the thickness measured off the car, which you get in writing at every inspection here.

How much does a brake job cost?

It depends on the vehicle, on whether the rotors can be machined or reused, and on which tier of pad you want, which is why we measure first and quote after. You get one written figure covering parts and labor before anything is touched. What you will not get is a number over the phone that changes once the wheels are off.
