Muffler and exhaust repair in Detroit

Exhaust is the work this shop is named for. A loud car is usually a cheap fix caught early and an expensive one left alone, so we trace the leak from the manifold back rather than replacing the costly part first.

Muffler & Exhaust at Quality Muffler & Brakes on Fenkell Ave, Detroit

What the job includes

Mufflers and resonators

Direct-fit replacements where they exist and custom bends where they do not.

Pipes, flanges and hangers

The joints and isolators that rust through first and cause most of the rattles and drone.

Catalytic converters

Tested before replaced. A converter is an expensive part and it is not always the one at fault.

Custom welding

Sections fabricated and welded in place when a full assembly would cost you more than the repair is worth.

Signs you need this

  • A rattle underneath at idle or over bumps
  • Exhaust fumes noticeable inside the cabin

  • The car failing to run quietly after a cold start

Questions about muffler & exhaust

Can you fix just the section that failed?

Usually. If the rest of the system is sound we cut out the failed section and weld in new pipe rather than selling you an assembly.

Do I need a new catalytic converter?

Only if it has actually failed. We test before recommending one, because it is the single most expensive part in the system.

Is exhaust work same day?

On most vehicles, yes, the welding is done here.

How much does it cost to fix a muffler or an exhaust leak?

Much less than people expect when it is caught early, because a blown joint or a rotted hanger is a weld rather than a part. It only gets expensive once a section has rusted through and has to be replaced. We put it on the lift, show you what has gone, and quote the repair before we start cutting.

Is a muffler delete legal in Michigan?

No. Michigan requires a working muffler that keeps the vehicle at or under the legal noise limit, so a delete is a ticket waiting to happen and an emissions problem on top of it. If you are after a deeper note, ask us about a performance muffler that is still street legal.
