Fuel system service in Detroit

A fuel system rarely fails all at once. It fades, and because it fades you get used to it: a little hesitation pulling away, a rough idle at the lights, a tank that does not go as far as it used to. Dirty injectors and a tired pump both do that, and both are measurable rather than guessable.

Fuel System at Quality Muffler & Brakes on Fenkell Ave, Detroit

What the job includes

Injector cleaning and testing

Cleaned on the car, and tested for spray pattern and flow rather than cleaned and hoped for.

Fuel pumps and pressure

Pressure and volume measured against the specification for your vehicle, which is what separates a weak pump from a blocked filter.

Filters and lines

The filter that has never been changed, and the steel lines underneath that a Michigan winter finds first.

Sensors and fuel trim

Reading what the engine is actually asking for, so a fuel fault is not treated as an ignition one.

When to bring it in

Signs you need this

  • Hesitation or a stumble when you pull away
  • A rough idle that smooths out once you are moving
  • Fuel economy that has dropped without anything obvious changing
  • Hard starting, especially after the car has sat overnight
  • A check engine light for a lean or rich mixture
How we quote it

  2. A firm written quoteParts and labor itemized, explained in plain English, before anything is touched.
  3. Most repairs, same dayAnything found mid-repair is quoted and approved first. The invoice matches the quote.

Questions about fuel system

Does injector cleaning actually work?

On a car with genuinely dirty injectors, yes, and the difference in idle and throttle response is obvious. On a car whose problem is a coil, a vacuum leak or a failing pump, it does nothing at all. That is why we test first rather than selling it as a routine add-on.

How do I know if it is the fuel pump or the filter?

Pressure and volume. A blocked filter and a weak pump look identical from the driver seat and completely different on a gauge, and the gauge takes minutes.

Is a fuel system service worth it on an older car?

Often more than on a new one, because the deposits have had longer to build. We will tell you honestly if your car is not going to feel any different for it.
